Jails And Prisons Of Nebraska

Nebraska has 93 counties and 65 jail facilities. The statewide jail population in 2005 was 3,098 inmates. The NE Crime Commission, Jail Standards Division inspects jails and enforces standards compliance across the state of Nebraska.

The Nebraska Prison System

The Dept. of Correctional Services managed 4,438 inmates on June 30, 2011. The agency operates 10 facilities. In 2010, the department’s budget was $178.4 million with 2,340 staff.

The Community Corrections System

The Nebraska Probation System, under the authority of the NE Supreme Court, supervised 18,591 probationers in 2009. The Dept. of Correctional Services’ Adult Parole Administration supervised 823 parolees.
