The Mississippi Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections managed 21,307 inmates on July 1, 2011. The DOC operates 3 prisons, 11 regional facilities, 17 community work centers, and contracts with 6 private prisons. The agency budget for 2011 was $363 million and the agency had 3,612 employees.

The Community Corrections System

The DOC’s Community Corrections Division has 500 employees. The Division supervised 24,276 probationers and 5,426 parolees at the end of 2009.
